Summer Afternoon Downpour.

My wife and I took a short ride out to Marathon Rd.
this afternoon, and took this video of Bar Ditch
flooding along Marathon & White Pine Rd's.

This storm hammered a small area about 18-20
miles WNW of Carlsbad, NM. Too bad it wasn't
more widespread. We will take what we can get.

(Friday Morning - Saturday Evening)

Today marks the 53rd day that Carlsbad, NM has reached or exceeded 100-degrees. This establishes a new all-time record, exceeding the previous record number of days at or above 100-degrees, of 50 days set in 1998, and 48 days set in 1951.

For additional information on the unrelenting heat, and drought affecting SE NM and W TX this summer, please click on this link-

Unfortunately, the news only gets worse as we head into the weekend. A Heat Advisory has been issued by the Midland NWS Office for SE NM & W TX, beginning at 6 AM MDT Friday, and continuing through 9 PM MDT Saturday. Eddy, Lea, and Culberson Counties are included in the Heat Advisory

High temperatures are forecast to be around 102 - 105 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday across the Pecos Valley, and surrounding areas of SE NM. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to range from 72 - 80

Extremely hot (possibly breaking records daily, and maybe even some all-time monthly readings as well) temperatures are forecast next Monday - Wednesday in the area.

This afternoons forecast package from the Midland NWS Office has Carlsbad's high temperature on Monday at 110, Tuesday 111, and Wednesday 109. Similar readings are forecast for Roswell-Artesia-Hobbs, although they will likely be a few degrees cooler than Carlsbad, but not by much.

Please take the necessary precautionary measures to protect yourself, your loved ones, and pets from the heat. The very young and elderly will be particularly susceptible to heat stress and heat stroke during this event.  For more information please visit this link- Heat Advisory.
