Flash Flooding In SE NM.

3"-4" of rain fell around the Mayhill, NM vicinity Saturday, Augsut 27, 2005. 4"-6" of rain fell on Sunday, August 28, 2005 in 11/2 hours. The result was flash flooding along 70 miles of the normally dry Rio Penasco River/Arroyo from Mayhill east to Artesia.

3"-4" of rain fell around the Mayhill, NM vicinity Saturday, Augsut 27, 2005. 4"-6" of rain fell on Sunday, August 28, 2005 in 11/2 hours. The result was flash flooding along 70 miles of the normally dry Rio Penasco River/Arroyo from Mayhill east to Artesia.

3"-4" of rain fell around the Mayhill, NM vicinity Saturday, Augsut 27, 2005. 4"-6" of rain fell on Sunday, August 28, 2005 in 11/2 hours. The result was flash flooding along 70 miles of the normally dry Rio Penasco River/Arroyo from Mayhill east to Artesia, NM. This cow fell into the arroyo when the bank collasped, she nearly drowned trying to swim out.

3.75" of rain fell 3 miles west of the Carlsbad airport Friday night, 6-19-2009. Flash flooding on Little McKittrick Canyon flowed into Dark Canyon in Carlsbad, NM. Water depth was 4' when I shot this at 6:40 AM MDT.

3.75" of rain fell 3 miles west of the Carlsbad, NM airport overnight resulting in this flash flood on normally dry Little McKittrick Canyon arroyo. I shot this on Standpipe Rd on the southwestern edge of the city of Carlsbad, NM. The water had already receded a couple of feet by the time I shot this. Water depth was estimated to have been between 4'-6'.

Flash Flooding On The Rio Felix & Walnut Arroyos In Southern Chaves Co NM 7-22-2009. Spotters & residents reported 4"-5" of rain overnight in southern Chaves Co, and northern Eddy Co, NM. Radar estimates were even higher along the Rio Felix west of Hagerman, possibly as high as 6"-9".
