Three Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued for Chaves County Sunday night as well. One Severe Thunderstorm passed to the west of Roswell, one went north of Roswell, and one went east of them. They had three very close calls with severe weather.

Even though I had been talking about the possibility of severe weather here for days...I doubt that many people who live here, actually believed that it was going to happen. I can't say that I blame them, we just do not have very many severe thunderstorms in March, they are rare indeed. See the NCDC Storm Event Page for details, there aren't that many for March.

Our current El Nino is still going strong, but it is slowly weakening with time. It is forecast to last through the spring. I am betting on a continuation of the current stormy pattern, rolling right into a stormy spring here in SE NM. El Nino Springs can be wild around here, we can and often do see an increase in severe thunderstorms in SE NM, during moderate to strong El Nino's.

I think we are in for a very active severe weather season this spring here in SE NM! I think that we will see an above average number of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes this year!

Are you ready for severe thunderstorms in SE NM this spring? What is your plan for you and your family and loved ones, in the event that additional severe weather should strike your area this spring? What Is The Plan Eddy? What if Sunday nights Supercell Thunderstorm would have continued to increase in strength, and produced a tornado in Carlsbad. Ask yourself this, would you have know about it, and if so what would you have done? Please see this link for additional information on severe weather safety. Severe Weather Safety Awareness!

Please click on the NWS Watch/Warning map above, or the NM/SE NM Warning Widgets, for all of the latest Advisories, Watches, Warnings, and Special Weather Statements for our local area.
